Yesterday I stay-stitched the yoke, and I’m not sure about the results. A
lot of bubbling, and while it eventually all pressed out, it looks pretty
asymmetrical. I might have to cut another and stitch it over paper to keep
the shape, or underline it permanently with something more stable. I
prototyped a rolled hem, and it looked fine, but when I went to duplicate
the process on the actual pattern piece it refused to cooperate. I wound up
picking it out, and with thread that’s stronger than the fabric I had to do
it one stitch at a time. Not a great sewing day. The masonry guys started
work, so all the windows stay closed during the day and there’ll be brick
dust all over the herb garden this week. I finished Hanging Tree and
started Lies Sleeping. I’m enjoying the design of a new department; the
slow flywheel of people and systems.

Lunch, then work was good; I fixed and committed two sets of bugs and a
third is ready to commit later this morning. I shipped the return to
True&co, and took my snack to the little wooded picnic table behind the
glossy snowman.

Once home I did a turn through the garden and picked blackcurrants and what
is probably the last of the snow peas. The radishes are nearly ready and
could probably use some water. Dinner was a second draft of the previous
one, this time using “fry on low heat with the lid on” instead of my usual
“boil until thickened” and it was a good call. Prepped the blackcurrants
for the freezer, which makes a full quart. I might call that sufficient and
leave the rest for the birds.

Crossword, Legends, Room, snack, sleep.

G update: Welp, when they take him off the hard meds, the heart issues
start up again, so no rehab center for him yet. D is struggling with
anxiety spirals.

Yesterday I stay-stitched the bottom pieces. This is a lighter-weight
challis so I prototyped to find the right stitch length, and am using a
finer embroidery thread in the bobbin. At work I fixed some bugs, made a
commit, and found some more. P had the car on campus, so we drove home by
way of geagle for emergency sunflower seeds and also got cheese, tiny
potatoes, jam, half and half, and gf graham crackers. For dinner I boiled
some of the potatoes in heavily salted water, then smashed them between two
nested bowls and used them as the starch in my usual mix with snow peas,
asparagus, lima beans, cranberries, and a big handful of fresh parsley and
thyme. Excellent. P had pita with tabbouli and dips. Crossword, Room,
Flash, snack, sleep.

Fruit!

Yesterday I washed the two remaining rayon challis prints and hung them out
on the line. We went to the farmers market and got blueberries, apricots, a
sourdough salted chocolate chunk cookie, a lavender blueberry sourdough
scone, a cucumber, small red plums, shishito peppers, zucchini, parsley,
lettuce, salad turnips, a tomato, and some balsamic vinegar. We hopped down
to Allegro and got Gouda, Brie, and some walnut rolls. Home, lunch,
crossword. I spent the rest of the afternoon laying out and cutting a black
sleeveless top, and pressing and basting the placket. I started the next
Aaronovitch book, new-to-me The Hanging Tree. The arcs of “this is why
people call police filth” and “you get better at what you practice” are
seeing good development. P made pasta for dinner, and I made a second go of
the south-ish squash stew, with red lentils and prunes again instead of
onions but also with actual summer squash and I actually measured the
spices this time. Divine. Dishes, I brought in the fabric, then we played
another module and a bit of The Room. Snack, deep-cleaned my kitchen prep
area, sleep.

G update: because he’s had abdominal surgery and his meds are complicated,
he’ll be going to a rehab center instead of home and he’s coming to terms
with that. Still better than being in the hospital.

Yesterday I wrote up notes on the finished prototype shirt for the changes
I want to make in the next one; mostly construction and seam finishing but
I also want to try a one-piece placket at center back.

P came in on the shuttle with me and we had lunch together, then he went
off to clean out his locker at the gym. I spent the afternoon doing a
pytorch tutorial, then fixed a bug in how deletions are handled, which
passed a bunch of unit test modules. Not all of them, but, progress. I went
to a meeting with F and M, and contributed some of the sample programs from
the ProPPR repository as possible sources of training data. We need a huge
pile of proof traces from logic programs with semantically-meaningful
predicate and atom names. Ideally it would be a pile of different programs,
but the top_X ones we built for ProPPR are huge enough to generate
thousands of proofs each. That will work, but we risk overfitting to that
particular naming style, which is unlikely to match what we’ll be using in
LIA.

I walked home through the park and listened to Foxglove Summer (extremely
great if a little heavy on the foreshadowing). Once home, sat for a bit,
then made dinner. P made pizza. Being back in proper routine again is a
major comfort. P took a call from his mom while I did dishes, then we did
the crossword, and played a module and a half of the new The Room
installment. CW uncontrolled fire in this one.

Snack, sleep. I dreamt of whistling at hummingbirds, exploring old
buildings, and parties at my french teacher’s house learning constructed
languages.

G update: he’s doing way better! Also D inquired around the neighborhood
about teens that might want to pick up some extra cash mowing their lawn
this summer, and it turned out all the neighbors had already worked out
like a whole schedule whereby they’d take turns making it happen. New
England.
