Yesterday I continued to cut and shape the linkage for the lever mechanism on the White. One hole left to drill before test assembly. I’m a little concerned about malleability at the wee arm that holds the spring, but if that becomes a problem I can probably shear off the one from the original arm and rivet it in place.

Lunch solo, submitted a Penzey’s order for paprika and cinnamon, watched some Kipo. Dinner together, trash, crossword, attempted episode two of Irregulars before noping out from body horror and watched Legally Blonde instead. Good choice, there’s a lot more support network and grinding on instrumental motivation in there than I remember. Snack, sleep, dreamt of solving weird VR puzzles in order to get the wifi password, delinquent but heartwarming teens, wedging clay for throwing, a wee beachfront property with my cousin J and with my grandmother from thirty years ago.

Yesterday was an excellent cap to the week. I went to the all-hands meeting, then had my first run of one-on-ones, then met with S on general roles and strategy, then had therapy. Getting to know the Fellows has been really enjoyable and I’m excited to see what we can do together. I showed C what staging a new version of the map is like. He was appropriately horrified, and also had some ideas for how to make it less awful in the interim while we work on moving away from CMS. After that, D had a fix ready for the surprise file name change caused by the geo coding refactor, so I tested and merged that and set up a one-off run to hopefully repair the gap from the last two days.

Dinner, crossword, then finished watching The Boys in the Band, which I am not surprised to find is a film adaptation of a play by the same name. Very different from my usual fare but lovely all the same. No snack, just sleep. Dreamt of cashew fruit, oxidizing metal sculptures, retrieving long-abandoned clothing from the yard, playing Connect Four with half the pieces missing and replaced with slices of vegetables.

Yesterday I stayed home sick. I watched Coco (and sobbed at the end), NextGen (and teared up at the end), and then started in on Voyager to see if I could doze a bit. There was lunch, snack, a bunch of tea, dinner. P did the trash. We did the crossword, then more Voyager and sleep. I dreamt of a weird studio apartment with P, laundry, some big server, a portal to IT’s receiving and package storage, running an email list that was either for cancer or porn or possibly both, and driving my old geo metro to some class with a strict homework policy.

Yesterday I finished the hem band, and washed the skirt along with our
usual laundry to get rid of any stray oils and chalk. It screwed up the
canvas inside the hem band something awful though so I’ll need to tack it
in place before I wash it again.

I made a Dorset button while finishing Lucifer, crooked but not bad for a
first try. I’ve started another one that will be straighter.

Crossword, dinner, folded all the laundry, and then I watched The Mummy.
Brendan Fraser is a gift.

Yesterday I made some new salves, focusing on dry-touch oils without any
strong scents, with a touch of myrrh EO for healing and to cover the oil
smell. Seems to work pretty good so far. While working I finished Long
Earth, such as it is. I firmly believe you have to write an ending for your
book, not just quit when you get tired, even if you’re writing a series.
Alas.

P helped me mark a level hemline on the skirt, both sides to account for
asymmetry, and I averaged the results so neither one will look too uneven.
I adjusted the hem bands, then made a pattern piece for the back hem band
(which has to be done in sections because of the width) and started tracing
and cutting.

My back was giving me warning signs, so after lunch I watched a movie
instead of continuing to hunch over the cutting table. I hadn’t seen the
Ghostbusters remake when it came out, and the climactic Holtzman scene has
been going around on Twitter, so I figured it was time. Pleasant and
entertaining; not worldchanging but it doesn’t try to be. Solid.

Dinner, crossword, Lucifer. No snow, just rain.

Yesterday I ripped back the pleats and redid them right sides together,
which was way easier... then realized it didn’t leave enough room for the
plackets. So I ripped them back again, folded the pleats wrong side
together, but pinned the right-sides-together flap created when you press
them toward the side seams, and sewed that. Much easier, though the last
pleat insisted on turning out twisted. Twice. So I set it aside to revisit
later.

After lunch I cleaned my mess from atop and under the dining room table,
and found my ultimate hat and the double-knit wolf mittens from the yarn
swap I did with a woman in the Netherlands a few years ago. The hat had
minimal damage and went into the freezer, but the mittens were a sad mess
of missing fabric on one side, so I guiltily threw them out. That is
unfortunately what I get for not taking better care of my things.

I tried a cleaning technique from one of the recent ADHD twitter threads,
where instead of running things to other rooms as you find them, you set
out an array of bins to sort them into so you can avoid leaving your
physical focus area. It was good! I did wind up doing a few weird things
(it was easier to just wrap A’s gift than to sort it somewhere and be
continually reminding myself not to forget to wrap it) but the whole
process was less tiring.

After all the detritus was put away, I made candied pecans, just because.
They’re pretty good but just the edge of too sweet for serious snacking. I
switched from tortilla chips to animal crackers so my daily sugar intake is
still a bit high.

Dinner; still having some anxiety paranoia about raisins but pushing
through it. Crossword, snuggling. I watched Prince of Egypt, an animated
film from the 90s about Exodus I’d for some reason avoided until now. It’s
lovely, with a powerful soundtrack that sits appropriately on the edge of
moving & overwhelming. Recommend.

Yesterday we went to open studio and I trimmed the rest of the small bowls.
The pug mill was broken unfortunately so there wasn’t much clay to be had.
After pottery we went to Target and got more Katie-snacks, determined they
didn’t carry “moon cheese” yet (that’s just at the monroeville one and
online), and found a wee trash bin that will fit in the cubes on P’s side
of the bed so he can stop dropping his headphones in the trash.

Lunch, crossword, then I spun for a bit and watched Queer Eye. Dinner, then
I watched A Wrinkle In Time. It was... rushed. I’m not sure it would have
made any sense at all if you hadn’t read the book. If you’re going to leave
something out, leave it out, don’t name-drop it and hope.

Yesterday at work I finished getting all the tests to pass, which was a
nice surprise. Next I’m building a type system. No meeting, since my boss
is traveling this week.

After work, reading ceramics forums, dinner, and crossword. Then I watched
Black Panther. What a perfect film.

Really good food day. I had a mid morning snack, but still ate all my lunch
and had afternoon snack and dinner and everything was fine. Pleased!

Too humid

Yesterday P went to Field Day at the teaching garden, and I stayed home and
did the laundry and hung it out on the line. I did a little spinning, and
finished knitting a dishcloth. I gave up on The Stars Are Legion; the
pacing is terrible and it both places itself as hard sf and doesn’t bother
obeying basic physics of scale. I pulled The Essex Serpent from the library
instead, and aside from an enormous TW for abusive relationships it’s way
better so far.

After dinner I meant to watch Black Panther, but it was too late so I
watched Hoodwinked instead. Wacky, kinda puerile, uneven CG, but
entertaining all the same.
