Yesterday I sewed the first edge of bias tape to one of the armholes, after
several false starts. I called P to chat and get the usual update; he’ll be
coming home today as scheduled to deal with his drivers license and, like,
actually rest and get some contiguous focus time in on his fall courses. At
work I fixed the temporary nodes issue in pytheo, and moved on to the LIA
tests. Home, then I did a turn through the garden and picked snow peas and
blackcurrants, weeded a bit, and cleared the current flush of comfrey out
of the radish bed. I had a nice chat with the neighbor about edible,
horticultural, and medicinal plants, and the relative virtues of growing up
in the country versus just reading a lot. For dinner I sautéed a quarter of
the cabbage with peppers and parsley, then proceeded to not put any of it
in my more Katie-sized stir fry of asparagus and snow peas. Legends, snack,
sleep.

G news: he will probably do out the rest of the week in the hospital to get
his cardiac symptoms under control, but is sleeping better.

Yesterday I finished the hems and tacked down the squirrely bits at the
transition to the side seams. At work I located an issue with how inferred
but uncached slots are handled (namely they’re being stored in the database
when they shouldn’t be) and started a refactor to maybe fix it. Home, and
my exchange from Herrschner’s had finally arrived, with the correct size
hooks and threads. Dinner, Legends (with some atrocious acting and/or
writing, wtf), finished the crochet sample, started fooling around with the
smaller hooks and threads. Snack, sleep. Whispers Underground continues
well.

G is starting to get more rest, and the repairs to his GI tract seem to be
working. Hopefully means he can go home soon!

Yesterday I finished the back yoke seam, felled the side seams, tested out
a few approaches to a rolled hem, and hemmed the back. I’m using a 4mm
rolled-hem foot, staystitching in the hem allowance. It’s not magic but it
seems to work out okay if you pay attention and go slow. For future
iterations I’ll probably hem them before doing up the side seams.

I went to the farmers market and got asparagus, cauliflower, cabbage,
shishito peppers, parsley, and coriander, and a sourdough salted dark
chocolate cookie.

Home, cut the cauliflower into planks, roasted in the oven for a half hour
at 375, flipping once. Had brie and sesame crackers for lunch. Did laundry;
clothes and towels. Surreal folding a load of only my clothes. Cleared off
the back porch in prep for the masonry guys tomorrow. Found a bunch of olla
demos and red clay, an abandoned mouse nest, a much more pleasant and very
cozy abandoned nuthatch nest, trashed a bunch of stuff. Don’t let me clean
your place exhausted unless you’re interested in a more Buddhist way of
life. Cookie for snack; was really pleased with past-me for that.

P called; I made dinner out of Priya’s new book, sorta, worked out well.
Mustard seeds and curry leaves, turmeric, ground coriander seed, and winter
squash was the base, but I added red lentils for protein, chopped prunes to
replace the caramelized onions, and some of the roasted cauliflower. Enough
leftovers for a couple lunches.

Finished Moon Over Soho and started Whispers Under Ground. He’s getting
better at writing women.

G update: everybody’s tired. He’s off the opiates, which is good, but still
coughing, which hurts, not so good. T and M just came up for the afternoon,
not to stay. Some of D’s folks might come up later this week to help.

Yesterday I figured out edgestitching (still need practice, particularly on
corners) and finished the plackets. At work I figured out the issue with
the differences between the LIA and raw pytheo tests was that LIA was using
batch mode and I wasn’t testing that in pytheo yet. Adding that test made
things substantially easier. More bugs remain; I suspect inference caching
isn’t working right.

Midnight Riot is more gruesome and misogynist than I remember, but remains
entertaining.

Home, and the Amish hairpins had arrived, so I put my hair up in a French
twist with them and am extremely impressed— only four pins and it was
secure to vigorous movement, and over the evening nothing dug at my scalp
the way a spring-claw tends to. Highly recommend.

Dinner, chatted with P (G is out of the ICU, has seen the GI, will go in
for lapro surgery in the next few days to make it so he can eat, hopefully
coming home to recover before P is scheduled to depart next Wednesday),
Flash, snack, sleep.
