Yesterday I was a bit of a mess since my period is late and whenever that happens the PMS just keeps ramping up until it arrives. We went to the farmers market and got apples, zucchini, eggplant, peppers, parsley, basil, beans, mushrooms, and pasta. We went to geagle and got more mushrooms, almond milk, dairy, soup, canned tomatoes, chips, and Cheerios. Home, lunch, crossword, then I spent the rest of the afternoon filling the dehydrator with apples: snow sweet, empire, and rubinette. Watched some Elementary, dinner, more Elementary, snack, sleep.

Laundry day

Yesterday I sewed and faux-flat-felled the front panel to the back panel, and test-pinned the big piped seam to resolve a suspicious marking issue. Alas, I mismeasured something and didn’t true the seams on the pattern — there’s an extra 3cm on each side. I’ll double check on the pattern today, since walking seams on outside curves is always a bit dodgy with seam allowance in the way. Better too much than too little though!

At work I finished getting the lexicon and executor to work in the LIA environment, at least to the point where types are starting to matter and we need to update the grammar. I wrote up an email explaining the issue and proposing a group meeting about it, but didn’t send it yet since next week T’s calendar is already hopped up on goofballs. Got into some executive dysfunction about needing to plan the meeting, knowing it won’t happen for over a week, not knowing what I’m going to do all next week without input, and some confounding frustration about the scheduling of a call with one of our funding agencies.

Home on the shuttle with P, sat for a bit, dinner, crossword, Elementary, snack, sleep. I liked the handling of the addiction crisis between the finale of S3 and the first couple episodes of S4. Addicts gonna addict, and recovery is largely about building up the stamina to pick up and go again when you fall.

I finished Sheepfarmer’s Daughter, which ended a bit abruptly. I suppose the next phase has to be a different book anyhow, but it could’ve done with a pacing adjustment to reduce the whiplash effect.

Irritable af. Yesterday I started laying out and tracing off pattern pieces for the chair back. We went to the farmers market and got apples, zucchini, potatoes, carrots, dandelion greens, orange peppers, a tomato, basil, green beans, a sesame seed cookie, and fresh pasta. Lunch, some fragility, laundry, took the tansy out of the dehydrator from months ago, stripped it and bagged it up, washed all the trays, put in the lemon chiles. That was a lot of holding my arms up in front of me for one day, so I spent the rest of it watching Elementary. Dinner, brought in the still-slightly-damp laundry, folded what was sufficiently dry and threw the rest in the dryer. Crossword, Elementary, snack, sleep. Weird dreams about rats escaping live traps. Liars Oath is wrapping up with extreme deus ex machina, barely helped by the fact that we know about them already from the prologue.

Yesterday I staystitched the armholes of the daisy fabric and started pinning the burgundy floral to tissue for same. I’ve been reading Tsumiko and the Enslaved Fox by Forthright, who is a fanfic author who’s branched out into original works. Tsumiko reads like it — it’s quite catchy but the fetishization of Japanese culture and folklore makes me nervous. Themes: slowburn, dom/sub, enslavement, consent, nobility, infantilization, polyam, rape, forced birth, and I’m only halfway through. So...consume with caution.

I went to the dentist for a cleaning and mentioned the cracked&patched filling was still bothering me occasionally, so they took a quick X-ray but didn’t see anything obvious. I have an appointment reserved for a week after my next cleaning in case it gets worse over the next six months.

Walked in to campus through the park because the app said shuttles were cancelled earlier than expected due to the funeral, but got passed by said cancelled shuttle two minutes away from my house. Grr. I was carrying a case of seltzer too. Grr. At least the woods were pleasant.

At work I wrote another test to try and get alternate names for relations working, but it required an adjustment to the lexicon which broke a bunch of other tests.

Home, sat for a bit, dinner, crossword, Legends, snack, sleep. I ate the last protein bar. There won’t be any more until autumn as they don’t ship well in the heat. Might go back to experimenting with making them.

Mood has been shitty in the evenings, not sure why.

Ugh dreams

shopping, birdsong, tv

Yesterday was hard. I need to pnyy zl zbz be zl tenaqzbgure and can’t seem
to do it and it’s exhausting. Normally routine helps. It’s not.

I woke up early, like by an hour. I sewed the snap on menstrual pad number
three, cut out a waistband for the languishing pair of my pj pants and
sewed it together, sewed one edge to the pants, and started whip-stitching
the other edge down. We went to open studio and I glazed three mugs and
four small bowls. Lunch. I put together an amazon order for apple chips. I
made a batch of almond butter puffed millet squares, this time with brown
rice syrup instead of maple, and earth balance instead of avocado oil. I
played an awful lot of a deckbuilding word game called Paperback. I spent
some time outside looking at the herb garden. Dinner, crossword, Flash,
snack, sleep.

Yesterday I was cranky and exhausted all day. I sewed some shorter shelf
liners to take care of the weird geometry bits in the linen closet, and
learned/re-learned how to do mitered corners. Immunity continues well. I
made another batch of rice berry and quinoa. At work I got non-Kerberos
authentication working over LDAP, but got stuck adding Kerberos in, as the
places it should be referenced in the backup config files make no mention.
There’s now a ticket in helpdesk about it so we’ll see. Home, sent P off to
class, dinner, Flash, crossword, sleep.

Yesterday I sewed the last two vertical seams by machine, and basted along
the seam line of the waistband to make it easier to press under. Also
stabbed my finger with a pin pretty good. At work, I had a nice long lunch
with C and caught up on everything. Spent the rest of the day writing up a
sample LIA teaching scenario as a series of worldstate changes. In the
process, realized I need to update the state machine diagram on the wiki to
match the new handling of non-command responses (yes/no/etc). That will
happen tomorrow.

The super-cerebral stuff can sometimes make me susceptible to getting
overwhelmed, and that plus hormones put me in a foul mood for most of the
evening. Dinner and crossword helped, then watched the season finale of
Lucifer (🙄 putting a main character’s child in jeopardy, cmon writers you
can do better) and bed. Planet continues to be even more awesome than I
remember. If you haven’t read Becky Chambers and you like character stories
you should definitely pick her stuff up.

Yesterday I finished the last of the Romney singles, did the trash, and
made some progress on Gerty’s embroidery project. I finally remembered to
buy another pair of headphones to replace the ones I accidentally put
through the laundry. Some anxiety in the afternoon because I forgot to pack
my usual snack and there have been mice on our floor at work; some more
substantial trouble with bedtime snack. Not super pleased about that.

Yesterday was better but I’m still recovering. CN:weight.

Got a bunch of work done in the morning, enough to suggest that the sketch
idea probably isn’t going to work. Still have a few more possibilities to
rule out before putting it to bed, but the complexity analysis outlook W
and I estimated in the afternoon is not great. Got a side project started
on AWS with credits imported and student researcher accounts in reasonably
record time.

Two meetings and a haircut were already pushing it, so I had to bail on
walking May Market with P and C. Might do that today, but P (kindly; I was
dreading doing it) cleared out the spice rack and be-moused shelving unit,
and I want to mop before everything goes back. It’s going to rain today,
and tomorrow, which means if I want to hang laundry it has to be this
morning. Dunno if I can handle mopping and laundry and Market when spoons
are still scarce; something may get booted.

It takes me a week to gain a pound, and a day to lose one. Thursday to
Friday lost me one. Friday to Saturday should be a little better, but I was
still riding the hungry-nausea train all day so who knows.

My WEBS package arrived, and I tried out the carbon fiber needles first and
love them so far. Speed-reading Sock Architectures to pick out a
satisfactory toe and heel, then casting on self-striping socks for P. One
of the books I got is on all the little second-order tricks for knitting
really high-quality garments; I’ve flipped through a third of it so far and
it’s exactly kinds of advice I’ve been trying to find through forum
searches on Ravelry, all in one place, beautifully written, photographed,
and diagrammed. It’s called “The Knowledgeable Knitter” by Margaret
Radcliffe.

Yesterday I spun more grey Gotland, took a reference call from a company in
CA considering one of our students, got a faculty member started using AWS,
and ground through more tensorflow nonsense trying to get sketches working
in learning.

P did the shopping, made a print of his new poster design for the teaching
garden, installed it, and came home with fresh asparagus.

I did some more stitching on Gerty’s embroidery project, and watched
bake-off Master Class.

Starting to get stressed about too many competing obligations at work. I
expect to need to change my diet soon too, which doesn’t help.
infryq: Kitchen scene at dawn, post-processed to appear as if painted (Default)
Yesterday I was irritable. I spun more grey Gotland, made gf vegan cookies
for P’s final on Tuesday, did the math for P’s sock pattern and cut out the
associated cardboard foot, and swatched with several sizes of needles
before grudgingly accepting I’ll need to use zeros. The wood ones from addi
are bendy though, so I went hunting for better ones online and in the local
rav group on Facebook. I have an order on WEBS ready to go, but I’m
sleeping on it for a bit to see how many of the books in my cart I actually
want.

Made more rice berry. I think I’ve figured out why the math is so awkward;
the parts for the final volume is 9/4 times the dry measure, but there are
8 ounces in a cup and I put 3 ounces in each little preportioned jar. 10
jars = 30 ounces = 9/4 times 8x for x cups of dry rice means x = 30/18 =
5/3 cups. I’ve been trying to measure out in halves or quarters and always
coming up either short or excessive.

Yesterday I spun a bit and carded a bit, and did my stretches. They are
starting to look like gentle yoga, so that’s good.

We cleaned the bathrooms in prep for carnival guests, and I flipped the
bedding in the guest room, washed sheets and hung them on the line for the
first outdoor laundry of the season. Hanging things out on the line is
super meditative for me and I like it a lot.

The new rice is not my thing, but P likes it okay.

We’d planned to go to Costco, but there’s a not-so-slow leak in one of the
tires, so that will wait.

Instead of knitting I broke out a supported spindle project for tv time,
which was enough different from knitting that it didn’t wreck my hands.

I’ve been more irritable and anxious than usual. I do expect my period
later this week, so some of it’s probably hormonal. I’ve also been a bit
cavalier about spoons lately. I’m still not great at predicting how long I
need to recover.

Currently researching scroll frames for G’s embroidery project, seltzer
makers, and summer shoes.

Long, involved dream about police stations and art classes and living with
my folks and shower contention and face painting and a weird spot on my
hand that wouldn’t heal.
