Yesterday my trail mix bar order was cancelled because they had to damage
them out 😢

I ironed a pile of handkerchiefs. I went to a therapy appointment and
unpacked the Seattle trip. I finished Space Opera— the ending is worth it.
Read it. At work I discovered our primary server was horked; after a
suspiciously long reboot it turned out our brand new RAID array had a pile
of checksum errors. It’s possible they were my fault for not unmounting the
other servers from NFS before IT took them down last week, but in theory
nothing on the server was running or using the mounts so I’m not sure.
Wrote it up for J to check out.

Home, and got news from P on his adventures. He has an offer letter from
the English department! A special faculty appointment, just a year contract
but it’s a good first step that will hopefully yield a bigger budget from
Dietrich next year. (he also went to the Strip and submitted grades)

Dinner, crossword, Flash, ordered some protein powders and future
Katie-treat ingredients, sleep.

Yesterday was P’s birthday! I took the day off work because there was a lot
to do. I spun more of the Seattle blend, carded more Tunis, and finished
the drafting for the box pleat skirt. After lunch we went to east liberty
and I got my drivers license renewed (...it expired back in November), and
then we went to the Goodwill and picked out a spoon for the jar, and I got
a replacement dye/soap pot. We went shopping at the Shadyside market
district and got some A+ sass from the cheese guy, and also lots of
Katie-snacks. Then we went out to dinner! A very rare occasion for me, but
Driftwood makes all their pizzas from sourdough and P is on first name
terms with the guys who run the place. J wasn’t convinced they could
actually do me a pizza that wouldn’t burn, but N came out and offered an
eggplant-based vegan pie and it was DELICIOUS. The chili oil was a little
challenging for my system but it was totally worth it.

P got some really nice lights for the emergency kit from his parents, and a
Leach book on pottery from me, and a bunch of quality time. A good birthday
was had by all!

Yesterday I spun some more Romney singles, washed a load of towels, washed
all the soaping equipment, and de-moused the soap racks, including washing
all the curing trays and trimming the nibbles off all the damaged bars of
soap. Took all damn day, with breaks for snacks and posture rest.

P taught a tool maintenance workshop at the teaching garden, which by all
accounts went fabulously.

I discovered that the brand whose red lentil pasta I so enjoy is not
infallible: the edamame pasta in the same line tastes like cardboard. Nice
to reject a food on culinary rather than anxiety reasons for once; it’s
been a while.

Yesterday I carded more Tunis, spun more Romney singles, made a big
spreadsheet at work of all the little sensor components we have and what
parts have been implemented or not, made a big batch of split moong dal,
and got in some excellent cuddle time. P met with a technical communication
bigwig and was able to give out some teaching reassurances, and put in a
marathon afternoon at the teaching garden.

Mom called just before bedtime, and we got to catch up. Apparently grandma
has been frustrated with the emergency alert necklace she wears because it
goes off by accident a lot, but then the other day she took a fall and
grandpa couldn’t hear her shouting, so it was good she had it. My aunt is
starting to catch flak at work for taking so much time off to care for
them. The male siblings don’t live as close, but some of that is illusory—
it takes mom five hours round trip to come in, and it would only take J
six. He’s been ill, but I do wonder what he and D would do if mom and S
weren’t around.

Epic dreams about a fusion of Clan of the Cave Bear and A World Out of Time.

Yesterday I spun more grey Gotland, took a reference call from a company in
CA considering one of our students, got a faculty member started using AWS,
and ground through more tensorflow nonsense trying to get sketches working
in learning.

P did the shopping, made a print of his new poster design for the teaching
garden, installed it, and came home with fresh asparagus.

I did some more stitching on Gerty’s embroidery project, and watched
bake-off Master Class.

Starting to get stressed about too many competing obligations at work. I
expect to need to change my diet soon too, which doesn’t help.

Yesterday we were both up early, because (me) birds and sunrise but also
(P) early final and even earlier catering pickup. I got in plenty of
spinning and a good set of stretches before work, and P returned home just
as I was packing up to leave. Final went great, I walked in from dinosaur
park, and broke in my new summer sandals, complete with blister. Normal
Tuesday meetings, including scheduling the marathon git merge and conflict
resolution session that’s been overdue since September, and dithering a bit
on whether we’ll make a workshop deadline on the 18th or slip to a less
relevant one on the 23rd. Embroidery after dinner. Finished book three in
the Charm of Magpies series, and still love them so I hope there’s more.

Yesterday I finished another bobbin of teal yarn, had a good set of
meetings at work, and worse nausea than usual after dinner. P had a good
class, some confusing interactions with Problem Student, got some very
validating advice from the contracts legal advisor over at Pitt, and some
well-earned praise and other notes from the early course feedback folks at
Eberly.
