Yesterday I finished the pattern adjustments, then laid out, traced, and cut out the second chair back pieces. I finished Divided Allegiance (can we have ONE BOOK in this series without a sexual assault, please) and started Oath of Gold. I ironed a linen remnant and traced out a grid for sleep sachets. I went to my doctors appointment, even though my Zoloft refill arrived (fast!) already with the intended new dosage. A nice surprise. Anyway everything is very typical for me health wise. Not ideal, but typical for the time of year. Things will start getting better again in February. Worked on thread-tracing the grid in the waiting room, as the chalk will rub off soon enough.

P walked home after work, and I hung out with him and did more stitching while he decompressed. Dinner, crossword, Elementary, snack, sleep.

Olin trans update: better but not yet good. Not transphobic per se, but a failure to understand the fragility of the space:

The student in question clarified on fb that the slash actually indicates their new name, not their dead name, and it’s sufficiently new that they’re still trying it out and legit using both so they requested that their name appear exactly as it did. This is a huge relief. I have still written a letter back to PM requesting a public clarification, since without that privileged information about the student’s transition history, it absolutely has the appearance of deadnaming, which sends a piss poor signal to cis and trans community members alike. Part of this whole deal is that already-hurting students shouldn’t be doing all the work of change, so while asking a different name be used than the one you signed the petitions with is a bit odd on the student’s part, transition poses a different challenge to every trans person. Odd stuff is gonna happen. It’s in our best interest to normalize that as much as possible. It is PM’s job to communicate clearly with the Olin community, and that did not happen.
