Yesterday I spun more red brown alpaca, had a nice lunch with C, did some
brief experiments with W’s new count-min-sketch implementation, and went to
our lab meeting. B presented a neat method for pretraining neural networks
for question-answering via synthetic construction of cloze questions from
the domain corpus. It works a treat and now I want to use it on everything.

Z arrived safely, and he and P went to Everyday Noodles for dinner. While
bussing home I had a great chat with bus stop mechE masters student (.. I
should really learn his name) about ways to increase protein and calorie
density without making eating unpleasant (he’s losing weight too fast), and
mechE -accessible analytical courses in robotics and ML he might pad his
electives with.

Z is now working for an AI firm developing conversation agents and forum
moderation tools, which is cool. Good stories about the spectacular
failures enjoyed by science center equipment, parallels between CNC
knitting machines and 3D printers, and planetary science.

I left the difficult corner of the crossword for P, but we figured it out
eventually, modulo me picking the wrong ending of an adjective in Spanish.
