Yesterday we went to the bakery, the teaching garden, and the coop. I got some new foods, including bean-based chips, rose soda, and tiny cookies, as well as brown rice syrup, toothpaste (still only one non-mint fluoridated option), some nose salve (since all my saturated fats have long gone bad by now), and some throat lozenges.

Home, lunch, then I spent the afternoon in the sewing room. I finished squaring off and cutting all the canvas panels, sewed all the ends together, and pinked the edges to cut down on fraying. Then I set them to soak in the laundry tub, since they’re pretty heavily sized and I have doubts about water being able to penetrate properly in a single wash cycle.

Snack in there somewhere, and P walked to Oakland to pick up his new glasses. Surprising heat for September; 87? Anyway snack was amazing; the new cookies are cassava based and the rose soda is strong to start but quickly grew on me.

I finished Three Body, which ended rather abruptly but I guess I don’t know what else could’ve happened. On the whole, I like the idea (which was 100% different from what I assumed at the beginning, no spoilers), but the eventual reveal was so rushed it required waaaay too much as-you-know-bob and other dry exposition, all at once. I wonder if it would have been a better story if the reader were allowed to know more before the end. I tend to dislike just reading someone’s world building notes.

Dinner, crossword, Elementary, snack, sleep. I was up at 1am desperately coughing, and took one of the new lozenges. It was effective but had some nauseating side effects; possibly too much slippery elm for my system. I think I prefer ricola for now.

Yesterday I was up early enough to return to sewing prep. I finished my rough measure of panels in the purple canvas, and cut one square by pulling a thread. Four more to go.

I worked from home, and finished all the flow diagrams. I put them up on the wiki with text annotations, and sent out email for feedback.

I started reading The Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu. The reader is a bit dry, and so was the intro, but it’s worth sticking with it. It’s an idea story: what if the consistency of physics was a whim, and what if they just ...lost interest?

Dinner, trash, crossword, Elementary, sleep. I forgot to take meds but it turned out fine; I’m congested this morning but it didn’t wake me up.

Yesterday I worked from home, and got the theo class diagrams done and started some flow diagrams for LIA. Meds are magical. Dinner, crossword, Elementary, snack, sleep. More Hilda too. I like it, but I actually wouldn’t recommend it for kids — it takes an immoral approach to ads and micro transactions considering the low impulse control of the target audience, and there’s no purchase option to disable everything.

Yesterday I worked from home, and made a bunch of progress on diagrams for LIA. I got an email update from M and gently pushed in the direction of design thinking. To start out with, we’d prefer a pile of lightly-sketched use case ideas to a single thoroughly-developed one. Late in the afternoon whatever illness I’m suffering suddenly turned on all the taps, so it looks like I’ll be grinding through upper respiratory crap for a while. I checked in with T to see what he wants to do, and I’m to reschedule once I’m fully 100%. Pleased to have a boss with an appropriate sense of priorities.

Snack, Elementary, dinner, crossword, Elementary, meds, sleep. I took a decongestant and an nsaid, which seems to have served me well for sleeping. Played a ton of Hilda, too.

Yesterday I did better but still tired. We went to the farmers market and got plums, apples, beans, peppers, basil, cherry tomatoes, an onion, zucchini, and a tiny wee winter squash called honeynut. We went to geagle and got corn chips, nut and seed bar ingredients, tea, and half and half. Home, lunch, put the laundry out on the line, crossword, nap, snack, Elementary, dinner, some code assistance for P, more Elementary, sleep. Playing a lot of Hilda; it’s quite addictive.

Yesterday I spent most of the day utterly knackered. Low fever, scratchy throat. I did manage to flip the bedding and hang it out on the line, and P had a laundromat adventure with some of the languishing duvets. P also retrieved the lawn mower from the shop, and successfully mowed the lawn. I watched Incredibles II, had a most excellent nap, and downloaded a creatures game based on Hilda. I learned the young actress who voices Hilda is indeed the same person who plays Mildred on The Worst Witch. Afternoon crossword, late dinner, Elementary, sleep.

Yesterday morning I was less feverish but pretty froggy so stayed home again. Pushed fluids, tried to nap without much success, watched The Worst Witch and the Get Smart remake. Which is probably what has Bali Hai stuck in my head this morning. Some fever resurgence in the afternoon but otherwise uneventful. P had a good class day but the bridge on his glasses gave up unexpectedly. The optician said they’d have to send away to repair it, so he’s going in for a proper appointment on Monday and wearing an older pair in the meantime. He can’t count fingers outside a narrow range without them, so that was pretty unpleasant. He came home on the shuttle, and we did the crossword, then dinner and snuggles. Elementary, sleep. Slept much better, I’m on the mend at last.

Yesterday I stayed home sick with a mild fever. I fugued naps and Netflix all day, including Into The Spiderverse (holy amazing art direction batman) and The Worst Witch (hilariously bad acting). I drank alarming quantities of water, very unusual for me. I made a big pot of mujaddara, then attempted to pack it up for later but exploded the glass container when I tried to snap the lid on. Cleaned up, made another, smaller pot of mujaddara, and managed not to repeat the tragedy. More naps. P came home, dinner, crossword, Elementary, sleep. Still fitful, but mostly because I’m propped up to avoid post-nasal junk and have to flip over fairly often to give my joints and ears a break. Still sick this morning but fever is down. Will probably stay home again to chase it out.
