Yesterday we went to the bakery, the teaching garden, and the coop. I got some new foods, including bean-based chips, rose soda, and tiny cookies, as well as brown rice syrup, toothpaste (still only one non-mint fluoridated option), some nose salve (since all my saturated fats have long gone bad by now), and some throat lozenges.
Home, lunch, then I spent the afternoon in the sewing room. I finished squaring off and cutting all the canvas panels, sewed all the ends together, and pinked the edges to cut down on fraying. Then I set them to soak in the laundry tub, since they’re pretty heavily sized and I have doubts about water being able to penetrate properly in a single wash cycle.
Snack in there somewhere, and P walked to Oakland to pick up his new glasses. Surprising heat for September; 87? Anyway snack was amazing; the new cookies are cassava based and the rose soda is strong to start but quickly grew on me.
I finished Three Body, which ended rather abruptly but I guess I don’t know what else could’ve happened. On the whole, I like the idea (which was 100% different from what I assumed at the beginning, no spoilers), but the eventual reveal was so rushed it required waaaay too much as-you-know-bob and other dry exposition, all at once. I wonder if it would have been a better story if the reader were allowed to know more before the end. I tend to dislike just reading someone’s world building notes.
Dinner, crossword, Elementary, snack, sleep. I was up at 1am desperately coughing, and took one of the new lozenges. It was effective but had some nauseating side effects; possibly too much slippery elm for my system. I think I prefer ricola for now.
