Yesterday we went to a cute coffee shop for breakfast with my folks.
Afterwards, mom went to visit with gma for a bit, and I washed my hair and
P went for a walk. Mom and dad headed back to Kingston around eleven, and P
and I had lunch at Chaco. I read a bit more of the shirtmaking book, had a
nice nap, then we walked up the hill to hang out with gma. My aunt K and
uncle D were still around, so we all told stories for a few hours. I showed
gma the embroidery, and she was very pleased, and explained how to finish
the edges with crochet lace. I’ll be taking it back to pgh with me for
that. She also explained her pattern for the nylon scrubbies she makes (11
yards of tulle cut in 4” wide strips; ch4, join, 2sc in each st/circ
increases until 20 sts around, slst 1 rnd, dc every other st to close). We
had dinner with her in the cafeteria, then hung out and watched South
Pacific. I don’t think I’d ever seen it before; the ending was a bit
dissatisfying so my headcanon is that instead, all the women move in
together and live happily ever after.

We walked back down the hill at 9 and I did a snack and bedtime routine and
sleep.

Yesterday I wrote up some more of the skirt project, hung up the socks, and
set some stained laundry to soak. Except then the tap wouldn’t turn off. P
managed to get it down to a drip by taking it apart and putting it back
together again, but there’s some part in there that needs to be replaced.
Extra fun because the laundry sink doesn’t have its own shutoff, so if we
were stuck with it gushing, we would’ve been stuck without showers.

We got an inch or three of snow, which stuck fast to the roads after two
days of subzero temperatures. For some bizarre reason the plows didn’t go
out until traffic was already hosed. The bus was half an hour late, and I
heard from the shuttle driver they had to cut service for two hours when
the wheels started locking up on downhills. Despite the schedule slip I was
able to get lunch before therapy, and on the way back stopped at the art
store for replacement drawing pens. They’re going out of business!
Currently targeting late March, depending on how fast they can shed
inventory and fixtures. If you need any supplies cheap let me know.

At work I continued porting Theo to python.

Dinner, fight with my sister. It'll be a while before I'm comfortable talking to her again. Sucks, but nothing we haven’t done before.

Crossword, Heart, buttons, sleep.

Yesterday I started drafting a pajama pants sloper. At work I fought with
some old infrastructure a bit to get Theo to build, and searched for
documentation. I found nothing for the 2012 spec but did find some from
2009. It’s a user guide, not a design guide, so only marginally an
improvement on the 1989 paper. I found a rogue exercise for R hiding at the
bottom of the notes for last week, and did that.

I wore my new skirt!! It was cold out but I was comfortable. It’s like
mittens for your legs, it’s great. The petti tends to accumulate static and
stick to my socks, but there’s enough volume that it shifts itself around
at an acceptable frequency. That will probably improve with the addition
of another petticoat. Serendipitously, my cotton organdy on backorder
arrived, so that’s now in the queue.

P taught his evening class, and I worked on Dorset buttons and watched two
episodes of a french show called Dix Pour Cent / Call My Agent!! about an
acting agency in Paris. It’s nice to see a show on Netflix that uses
something other than mortal peril to create dramatic tension, but it sits
on the border of too much social backstabbing for me. There have been some
good apologies which helps, but I’m not sure I want to be spending time
with these people.

After P got back we decompressed and did the crossword, then sleep.
