Yesterday I attempted to make another batch of pecans. I dissolved some
burnt caramel in water for the liquid phase, but added too much of it, so
the resulting icing was too fluid. It beaded up on the nuts and they got
waterlogged, which made for both poor coverage and insufficient crisping.
After they’d cooled they were no better, so I popped them under the
broiler... but set my timer for too long, and they charred thoroughly.
Gave’em to the birds.

My period started early, and the cramps were particularly bad. P gave me a
ride in to work. S joined me at the tail end of lunch to catch up. I spent
most of the afternoon updating the state machine diagram and adding another
structural layer to make it easier to interpret. I started writing
derivation rules for the imperative grammar, then got stuck on a wild goose
chase looking for examples, references, textbook sections. I found one
terrible treatment and one useful-but-possibly-too-simplistic treatment and
then it was time to go home.

I finished The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet and started A Closed and
Common Orbit, which is delightful. Dinner, a more standard batch of pecans
(successful this time, if slightly over-spiced), crossword, Lucifer season
2 and knitting on P’s sock. Nearly to the heel!
