Yesterday I finished turning the last few sachets, then ironed a pile of
napkins and kitchen towels. Figured out the darning function on my sewing
machine and darned a few holes in otherwise-good towels. Finished Chalion,
which got a little too intensely rapturous but recovered satisfactorily. It
reminds me of a slightly more precariously-handled version of Brust’s
deities.

At work I checked in with S about the mice, who pointed me to building@ and
then promptly found a nest in a paper stash. So that’s escalating.

I worked through some more unit tests and made some more commits. Took a
snack break in the winter garden, which was extremely pleasant. I’ll be
taking snack breaks away from my desk for the next few weeks, until I
believe in the cleanliness of the soft surfaces on my keyboard rest and
mouse pad.

Home, and did the crossword with P before he went off to class. Dinner,
called my grandmother, watched some Flash while putting a few more petals
on Gerty’s embroidery project. P got home, then I had a snack and went to
bed. Trouble getting to sleep. Snack sat weird.

Yesterday I sewed together three small and one large sachet, and clipped
and turned two of them. Chalion is picking up. At work, my desk had been
visited by FUCKING MICE. I went on a cleaning rampage to wipe down all the
hard surfaces and trash most everything else. Then I rewrote the
generalizer and passed a pile of unit tests. Under-snacked because mice. At
lab meeting F ran a data collection activity, quieter than usual but still
fun. Home, dinner, Flash, then some shopping online for boar-bristle
hairbrushes. P got home, then I had a snack and went to sleep.

Yesterday I sewed the side seams using french seams, which has worked
beautifully. We went to open studio and I trimmed and handled the remaining
mug, then threw a medium bowl. Directly home, lunch, and then I cleaned out
the nest. One large bag of trash, one large bag of donations, and probably
three loads of pending laundry. There had been mouse activity in a craft
box and in the large cardboard box the range hood came in, but it’s all way
more than quarantine old, so a thorough vacuuming was sufficient.

Dinner, crossword, and then the internet tuckered out halfway through an
episode of Heart, so I played bubbles until sleep time.

Yesterday I flicked more Tunis wool, helped a student debug an issue with
line endings, and knit a few more rows on the herringbone hat. Knitting tv
was more One Day At A Time, which is starting to grow on me. I might be
nursing a sore throat...? and I also deep-cleaned the dining room table. At
least one mouse figured out how to get up there, and that is Not Okay.
Hopefully I’ve eliminated their access route.

Yesterday I plied another two bobbins of teal yarn, cleared out the gf
flour collection, went to the coop and got cookie ingredients, and made
cookies. Then I smashed my finger, which convinced anxietybrain the cookies
were the problem. Then I interrupted a mouse stealing a cookie, and
basically table flipped on the rest of the day and went to bed.

Yesterday I had lunch with C and D, where it was universally acknowledged
that I should work for T next if I can possibly manage it. Our labs worked
together closely a few years ago, and I agree.

I finished the final bobbin of the first half of the teal combo spin, and
started the next. It turns out the storage bobbins I bought last year are
longer than my other set, which is annoying since it means I have to move
the setting on the winder. Alas.

P went to the Strip and got cheese, thyme, a fun new Thai rice called
riceberry, and found a vegan mushroom-based oyster sauce, which is
intriguing.

While making lunch I heard many mouse sounds, and eventually it gathered up
enough courage to dart across the floor and behind the stove. So, P took
apart MouseTown #1, which is the ikea shelves by the window that probably
are what give them access to the table. Threw out a bunch of stuff,
sanitized the equipment in the appropriate dishwasher cycle, and started
thinking of what kind of wall-mounted storage solution we might like to
replace it with that will be a bit more mouse-proof.
