Yesterday I carded some more Tunis, started spinning some grey Gotland
roving from last year, set the plied yarns to soak in cold water (normally
I do hot but I’m trying a new technique), and did stretches. Had lunch with
C, good day at work with experiments and analysis and fixed a couple bugs.
Walked home through the park, then watered in the new seeds from Saturday.
In the evening, P had a phone interview that seems to have gone well, and I
assembled my new embroidery scroll frame and started attaching Gerty’s
dresser scarf project to it. Very excited to start stitching!

Yesterday was busy! I finished plying the red brown alpaca, and started in
on the first installment of a surprise batt club from one of my favorite
local dyers. I carded more Tunis. We went shopping at Costco with a
somewhat shorter list than I thought we had. I stopped in to Bed Bath &
Beyond to poke at a sodastream, found it satisfactory, and brought it home
only to find the included bottle broken (and wet. I think this box was an
improperly-inspected return).

In the afternoon P mowed the lawn, and I disassembled last year’s
trellises, pulled the remaining parsnips, dug out the elecampane, raked
some seed beds, and planted snow peas, spinach, and calendula. P made kofta
for dinner, and I finished off the last rice+lentils module.

Busy day.

Yesterday I went to a lunch for women in my department, which is going to
be a regular thing. We have the expected variety of opinions on how to
respond to sexism (lean in vs change the culture) but it was a good time
regardless.

Had a good whiteboarding meeting with a student. Amazing how much drawing a
picture helps.

I got my bloodwork done, and it was way easier than I expected.

I did some job interview shopping, and found a couple shirts and some
slacks that mostly fit. I have different standards for fit now, I think —
the top of the sleeve cap is rotated too far back, the rise on the slacks
is alarmingly low for something called “mid-rise,” and there’s the usual
wad problem that happens when they try to save fabric by shaving down the
crotch sweep, then cover for it by adding width back at the hip. I don’t
think I can do much better though in my price range, so I’ll just cope.
Maybe this summer I tackle button-up shirts.

I did some research into seed-starting racks and cold frames, and into how
to remove the glass from old windows without breaking it. We saved all the
old ones from the house for that purpose, though they were certainly
painted with lead paint at some point in the last 120 years, so I can’t
just use them as-is in the vegetable garden. It looks like setting a pane
of glass into a new sash is complicated though so I might just tape the
edges and lean it on 2x4s as a temporary solution. I just need two; one for
onions and one for nettles.
