Ugh

Yesterday I drafted a yoke, waistband, and placket for a petticoat, and
sewed most of it— just have to tack down the last waistband seam. I used
chambray underlined with muslin and linen scraps at the waistband and
placket.

P found a sturdier ironing board at Lehman’s, and they were still doing a
free shipping deal so I just ordered it. Our current board has always been
a bit tippy, and P’s managed to knock it variously over more than once
while I’ve been on vacation so... necessary.

I slept on a notions order from Farmhouse, and after going through their
entire collection of lace edgings decided to submit it unaltered.
Researched a few methods of making ribbon trim.

Been listening to music lately; Air: Premieres Symptomes is a favorite,
also Mal Blum’s 2013 Tempest in a Teacup.

Angry about a dude my sister is good friends with being an asshat about
abused women being weak. She’s treating the situation with a lot more grace
than I would. L has stepped in to be the voice of Fuck You, but he’s not
having it. Thus. Angry.

Yesterday I played around with some croquis to figure out how deep a hem
border I want on the skirt. I had a session with R, made granola, and read
a bunch of the 2018 Italian renaissance costume competition entries. After
dinner and crossword, P took a full set of measurements on me. I opened a
MyBodyModel account — it’s software that does custom croquis based on your
measurements; I backed their kickstarter a while ago. The results... do not
match my internal body image, but they’re probably real? My shoulders are
intense, and I still have dancer legs. I dunno. I’ll compare them to the
ones I did from photos and we’ll see.

I switched to Kim’s Convenience for knitting. So far it’s kind of like a
less-good/more-stereotyped version of the glimpses of the antique shop from
Gilmore Girls, but it’s likely to grow on me all the same.

Yesterday I prototyped a denser pleat pattern, sketched some ideas for what
to do about the button placket to make it reversible, and did a bunch of
research on historical closures, pleats, linings, and petticoats. I
prototyped an edge-on hook, but managed to do it backwards. Practice ;)

We ran the dishwasher three times and almost made it through all the
thanksgiving dishes. P did some laundry. I’ve nearly finished the
Gladstone&c. Still fighting a looming headache behind the tops of my eyes
when I get too much screen time.

Epic dreams! We were living in a shuttle bus in my old neighborhood after
the house sold, and planning to just stay and get PO boxes. We were
sneaking around in a false ceiling in a building at MIT, and rescuing cats
and birds around campus. I wound up giving cha-cha lessons to A’s ex for
some reason?

Yesterday I prototyped some fan pleats, went to geagle with P in search of
organic oranges (no luck) and picked up a few other sundries, rsvp’d to C’s
mini-thanksgiving, and made an apple pie. After dinner we did the
crossword, and then I watched two episodes of the new She-Ra. Totally
excellent, you should absolutely watch it.

The crust of the pie is made from ground up oats, ground up toasted almonds
and hazelnuts, potato starch, earth balance, brown sugar, and calvados. Not
terribly rollable and it baked up extremely short but oh wow delicious. I
may have under-filled it (out of practice) but I don’t even care. Excited
to eat this pie.

I dreamt of planning to attend a science fair competition near my old high
school, and battling with bureaucrats about people having to clear out all
their stuff every night, and then it was partially canceled because there
was a forest fire, but I got to talk to a cool ceramics teacher. So that
was ultimately fun.

Yesterday I washed the wool samples, with reasonable success— reasonable
enough to machine wash all the fabric. I drew up a design for a reversible
pocket, and dug around online for walking skirt designs. I found a couple
of references to fan pleats, which seemed interesting, and bought a digital
pattern basically for that one pattern piece. There’s another way to do it
that doesn’t involve a closure, so I might play around with it a bunch.

P tore a sock on an uppity nail the other day, so I started darning it.
There was another dangerously thin spot on the heel so it’s good I got to
it now.

Dinner, crossword, gbbo, and the Gladstone&c. I’m almost done with season
3, and will definitely continue with 4.
