Under water
May. 13th, 2020 06:59 amYesterday I delivered the aggregations, met briefly with T to detail the data API pipeline, met with indicators, and went to the big group meeting (which now has a proper agenda! And quick updates to start followed by detailed discussion later!). Lunch, then I put out a data disclosure fire, with help from R. Spent the rest of the afternoon methodically studying a backfill problem, with limited progress. Dinner, crossword, DS9, assembled ingredients for another batch of nut and seed bars, sleep. Dreamt of the Boston T, Chinatown, fruit beverages, being so tired I couldn’t keep my eyes open, getting horribly lost, a research project with the NSA and the ONR, and toothbrush macrame.
I finished Network Effect. It got bogged down a bit in the technical details, but brought it back to a character story in the end. I like the way it models good relationship values — no one is a perfect communicator and everyone gets jealous or upset sometimes but they all ultimately believe that what they have with each other is worth the discomfort of vulnerability. Not a lot of stories straddle that line effectively.
