I started reading Contact by Carl Sagan. In theory I’ve read it before, but I must’ve been much younger, because wow. Prescient, insightful, rich. We’ve been fighting anti-science sentiment for a long time. It’s a little disappointing, but hardly surprising, that he explicitly considered a place in North America’s future for Native Americans but not for black people.
At work I broke out the brute force strategy and started collating each sql query with its meaning in theo and its place in the call structure of the frame-building procedure. There’s a lot left to do, but it’s already helped identify several patterns where we’re duplicating queries or asking the database for things we already know won’t be in there.
