Nov. 5th, 2010 06:07 pmSeptember 27th, eh? Huh. So here's what I've been up to lately:
There's always more, but that's a good start...
- Rocking my communication design course. We've done a recipe page, a brochure for Aeron chairs, a variety of "do everything you can think of with this content, following these weird strict rules" type assignments, an information visualization assignment (due this coming tuesday), and the final is going to be an extension of the recipe assignment, doing up a whole cookbook.
- Dealing with some cool performance problems (disk space, memory space, speed) at work.
- Learning about tokyocabinet, swig, and the lemur project, remembering the config-make-check-install dance, and some sordid details about universal binaries on the mac.
- Still teaching west coast swing, every tuesday night at Absolute Ballroom. The last couple months have included light and heavy frame, power from the hips, and momentum patterns.
- Two wine varieties: another pinot grigio (it turns out this variety is just orange. We didn't oxidize the stuff from last year. It's perfectly fine.), and a "claret" where I took a merlot base, and added some other fruits, including black mulberries, concord grapes, valencia oranges, plums, and a little lime juice. We're on about the third racking, and they're both good, but the claret is amazing. I can't wait for the rest of the particulates to fall out so we can bottle it and start spreading it around.
- Two batches of beer: we're slowly starting to use darker malts, and P is getting creative with the boil and adding ... things. We overcarbonated one batch, but it's fine if you give it a good stir. The other just went into bottles this week, so we'll know how that went in a couple of days.
- I'm 26. Huzzah! I bought myself a set of what I'm pretty sure are the exact same teak salad bowls my parents have. They're divine. Etsy FTW.
- We're getting quotes to have the windows in the 3rd and maybe 2nd floor replaced. Damn, but windows are expensive. Fiberglass would be nice. They say vinyl is better than it used to be but I'm not totally convinced yet.
- OMG tons of canning. Apple sauce, apple butter, pickled peppers, pepper relish, tomato sauce, tomato sauce with rosemary, sauerkraut, fermented pickles, tons of stuff. I still have to figure out what all I'm going to send around to family but our pantry is bejeweled with jars.
There's always more, but that's a good start...

Date: 2010-11-11 06:30 pm (UTC)The next couple of weekends look a bit full; this weekend I have an odd little stop-motion modeling gig, next weekend I might have a kendo practice in Columbus (if I can stand up). But I would very much like to hang out. :)
