Yesterday we went to the farmers market and got blueberries, peaches, tomato, parsley, eggplant, poblanos, and summer squash. P got pupusas for lunch, and I made a big batch of South Indian-ish squash with a bunch of the eggplant in as well. The heat was miserable so I otherwise hid in the AC. Finished Realm of Ruins, which devolved into a bunch of questionable and uncharacteristic killing and rushed the ending. Catching up on podcasts and working through QE. I saw the episode with the disabled client that folks are talking about. There seems to be two camps: White disabled people who are pissed about the ableism, and black disabled people who are tempering that with lifting up a black single father’s ability to be emotionally vulnerable after a troubled past. Both are clearly evident in the episode. “Disabled but not really” is ...not great, but I’m also reminded of S’s collaborator who said “I’m not disabled because of my legs, I’m disabled by a world full of stairs” which essentially is what the whole episode is all about. Would I have liked a more explicit callout that “but not really” is about combatting the challenges of the built environment, as opposed to inspiration porn? Sure. Was showing Karamo pushing him up the ramp uninvited a dick move? Absolutely. But ultimately the message for me was that of assuming competence and removing unnecessary barriers, which is as it should be.

I finished hemming two shirt pieces and started a third. P did some sewing too, on his bike bag. Very pleasant to sit and stitch together.
