Yesterday I bullied the team leads meeting into staying on time, and we got through prep for me to be gone next week as well as some good discussions on hiring and the possible risk of troll issues with one of our new signal candidates that accidentally captured national anxiety around the police brutality protests around 1 June. I went to day 3 of the google.org fellows kickoff, which was great and I’m excited for 1 October when everybody will start full time. The rest of the day went to debugging JHU, filling in a gap in the survey WIP signals, a quick stress test of the CSV downloader we want to put in 1.9, and some offline discussion of the Corona Data Scraper test signals.
Dinner, sent in the vegetable order (signed myself up for making red pepper paste next week), crossword, sewing and Originals, snack, sleep. Dreamt of people vandalizing accessibility features, river camping, a multicultural sword fighting tournament, an impressive phone charging station, a puzzle hunt.
Finished Harrow, not sure about the ending. It seems to have been written to create a particular experience rather than communicate a story, which is an approach I often find hard to follow and not particularly interesting. I’m switching back to podcasts for a bit and then will try a second time through.
