Yesterday I met with Indicators, and we discussed the complications around updating the FIPS codes for counties to the most recent versions; Virginia has a bunch of cities that aren’t a member of the surrounding county and get their own FIPS, and as they grow or shrink various FIPS get subsumed by others. The census population estimates don’t include those changes because they affect less than 200 people, so it depends for us on which FIPS are coming out of the different raw data sources we have. I went to the big group meeting, where I was on news duty: I found a local story about reusable masks, a technical story about a possible reason why some locations are setting more infectiousness than others worldwide, and a global story about giving poor countries a leg up in their bids to receive the vaccine when it becomes available. Capitalism has no place in public health, but that’s the world we’ve constructed. Got guidance from the modeling team on how they want to query against issue date. After the meeting I had the whole afternoon to write code; I made a start on issue date support in the API client, made a thing that will email the team at F when the weights files are out of date, and code reviewed a new indicator for hospitalization data from the CDC. Went to a management meeting with R about the strategic plan for the rest of the summer and into the fall, and started some comments in the doc. Checked in with HR about the status of our request last week to hire outside of CMU, but no news yet.

Made pita with P, dinner, crossword, DS9, no snack but it was a two-snack afternoon, sleep. Dreamt of walk-runs for charity, paper mâché, model castles, candles, successful evasion of a pick-up artist, walking on the shoulders of the outskirts of Wville.
