Yesterday I put together samples of all the different sheep breeds I have
fleece from, and went to my first, and the second ever, meeting of a new
fiber arts guild for Pittsburgh’s east end. I was super anxious while
waiting to leave the house, but rescue meds plus the general friendly
behavior of literally everyone I met meant everything turned out fine.
There’s a wide age range, which is excellent, and one dude, which is a good
start. I sat next to a woman who’s been doing everything since the 70s, and
am pretty craft-twitterpated with her. I also got to corrupt I mean talk to
a more beginner who’s thinking of buying a second wheel, so I extolled the
virtues of CPWs as a complimentary companion to the travel wheel she’s
looking at — small wheels are good for making big yarn (since the gearing
means they can’t turn the flyer very fast), and big wheels are great for
small yarn. It was a big old sheep love party in a spectrum of introverts.
