Yesterday I finished A Wizard Alone, and was disappointed but not
surprised. Someone who would never put forward the idea of locking away
grief as a net positive should in theory understand why doing so with
autism is inappropriate. She laid out several opportunities for
neurodivergence to play a positive role and drive elements of the metastory
forward, and killed all of them in the service of casting difference as
disease, and disability as purely a function of internal suffering. I know
the book was published fifteen years ago, and we’ve grown a lot as a
society since then, but ugh.
Took the covers off the cold frames so they don’t bake in the high 70s
we’re forecasted over the next few days.
