Jun. 19th, 2016 05:43 pmSaturday P and I designed the garden fence, then went to the waterfront to hit Costco for groceries and Lowes to price out all the fence materials. P's going to coordinate with a friend with a truck. Then I planted seeds in the raised beds, giving us additional motivation to actually build the fence. The groundhogs under the hill this year are fierce and hungry.
Saturday evening I made a really good salad with dried strawberries, pickled asparagus, and rhubarb dressing. Then we went to the Night Market, an evening street fair in sqhill. It was pretty grand! I was surprised and delighted to see a nail polish vendor there I know from the Internet; I wasn't aware she lived in the area! Bought a pink holo and a spring green crelly glitter from her. P got ice cream from Millie's (there were lots of food trucks around) and we chatted with various sqhill friends.
Sunday I started clearing some of the remaining detritus from where the fence is going to go. We went to the Squirrel Hill farmers market and got raspberries, pickling cucumbers, lettuce, kale, pea shoots, basil, and parsley. I made some amazing sautéed vegetables for lunch, and then we built the fourth and final raised bed. I dug it in and filled it with dirt. There's still lots of dirt left. I swear I did math and there wasn't supposed to be this much dirt left. :/
