Fibery update
Jan. 31st, 2016 09:52 pmMany, many projects going:

- [topleft] I'm making sock yarn out of the December fiber club fiber mom got me for Christmas. I have 2 of the 3 singles spun up, and am working the 3rd in mohair to see if I can ward against holes.
- [topctr] There's a spin-along I joined that's working on some fiber colorways inspired by 20s art (specifically "Mirror Lake" by Franklin Carmichael and "Music, Pink and Blue No. 2" by Georgia O’Keefe). I went in for one of the Mirror Lake braids and am combining it with a coordinating semisolid. In theory. It's still braided up on the table, looking divine.
- [topright I joined a spin challenge on combining different colorways, and did I declare my Mirror Lake combo? No, I declared two other braids I bought last spring that have been languishing in stash. But then, that's already on the wheel because it was BFL/silk and I knew it wanted to be something shawl-worthy. And the CPW was free so...
- [bottomleft] I'm steadily working through the Jacob fleece I bought at Wooster last year, and spinning up the softer bits of black and gray on the little german wheel. It's slated to be a bulky 4-ply for a scarf for T, frostlight, probably.
- I joined a knitalong for my favorite LYS, a garter-stitch shawl with an interesting construction that makes use of a solid main color and a gradient contrasting color. I happened to have some handspun 3-ply in a gradient colorway, so I picked up a coordinating solid over the weekend, and cast on for that. I'm fussing with the construction though, because I can't just follow a pattern.
- I finished up the center section of a half-hap (that's a kind of shawl in the shetland islands knitting tradition) in handspun so I could clear those particular needles for the knitalong. The border and lace sections will be knit ...later.
- [bottomctr] I still spin a coopworth/silk blend on the bus, because it's on a leetle teeny turkish spindle.
- [bottomright] In theory I'm working through 8oz of matted polwarth on another supported spindle. In practice it's so matted that I've decided it's just not enjoyable, so I'm waiting for the fleece processing to be done with so I can use the hand cards on it. I was spinning from the fold anyway, so it shouldn't clash too badly with the 3oz of singles I've already spun.
- While waiting for the mohair to arrive (it took usps 9 days to get from utah to here. I think the guy must've got lost) and wanting something to spin in bed and not wanting to fuss with the polwarth I started another support spindle on some merino/silk/bamboo from deep stash.
